I thought I was a bit off before but now I really know I am. The chicken foot is done and I actually could bring forth tears. I’m serious.
I have chills on the back of my neck. I have never been this excited about a piece or a technique that I’ve worked with. While micro mosaic is not new, I do believe that what I did is new. And if it isn’t, I would love to see what is out there and how I compare. Click the images for more detail if you want to really blow your mind.
I have never been reluctant to part with a piece and this one, I am. When I paused for a moment to wonder why that is, it hit me. This is the first time that I’ve made something that is from my heart. I know that sounds strange because it’s a chicken foot. What I mean is, I had an idea, realized that it probably wouldn’t be the most mainstream piece but made it anyway because I wanted to.. I spent hours and hours on it not caring if it would have to be priced out of the market to take that into account.
I made art for arts sake though I use the term “art” very loosely. It is art to me because it evokes a reaction in me. It makes me feel emotion. It draws me in. It stuns me. blah blah blah and on and on.
Need I say that I love it? Alas, it hits the mail tomorrow, along with the Potted Pig. I have the option to put a price tag on them for the show and I’m nervous about that. The chicken foot will have to be at least $350 and the pig $250. The chicken foot is done up with an embedded wire on the back to hang it. I would not be disappointed if neither of them sold and they made their way home to me. But a little cash is always nice too.
I already started the next project today…working up the design and pulling some color for Big Toothed Women. If I don’t come up with another idea while working on the first tile of this, I might make it a series.
